Artist Statement
To the casual observer, art objects are constructs of the imagination within the mind -- a process that uses the body and brain as a crucible to deconstruct the art object's form and color and translate them into ideas and emotions. With the evolution of digital media, contemporary art increasingly relies on non-organic or electronic elements which eliminate a number of human inputs necessary to the creation of art.
Lee's work rejects this modern electronic or digital paradigm. Instead, his works force the viewer to make visual compositions and investigate the nuances of motion through the use of modulation and form which emphasize the organic nature of non-digital media. Lee explores abstract and blurred scenery as motifs to describe the idea of imaginary space. Using loops, non-linear narratives, and free-form images as patterns, Lee creates meditative environments which suggest the expansion of experience.
